'It's like they never miss a pass': Swansea's Ethan Galbraith continues contest with Manchester City.

Ethan Galbraith grins broadly as he recalls the dramatic closing stages of his team's remarkable turnaround victory against Nottingham Forest in the Carabao Cup. The encounter ended with Galbraith temporarily wearing a spectator's eyewear amid the post-goal scrum.

With the clock ticking into the 97th minute, Galbraith struck the post with a powerful shot from outside the box, and his teammate promptly slammed home the deflection before charging toward the home end to mark the goal, with fans congregating around the players.

Stunning Reversal

The victory capped an unbelievable comeback given the Welsh side had found themselves down 2-0 deep into the second half. During the euphoria, there was some unintended consequences. Galbraith explained, "There was a fan trying to get our attention and Josh Key and I were thinking: 'What's he on about here?' Then we spotted the glasses. It was a bit of banter putting them on. We are on the pitch as footballers but we're people, too, so to have a laugh with the fans is always good."

Pep Guardiola Test

That win secured a upcoming fixture at home against Manchester City on Wednesday, a team Galbraith came close against at the same stage of the FA Cup with Leyton Orient in February. The athletic midfielder had arguably the best view when his former team took the lead in spectacular fashion, with the attacker's volley from about long distance going in via the bar and the City goalkeeper. It seems unfair that it was recorded as an own goal.

"You would have expected they would've given it to him for having a go from that distance," says Galbraith, who began the game centrally before switching to right defensive wing after the team changed shape. That meant getting to grips with the England international, with whom he traded tops, and the attacker was among the City players who praised the way his former team approached the match.

Guardiola's System

"Fitness-wise they are very good but even the basics and basic skills, they can just perform consistently," the midfielder notes. "It appears that they complete every delivery and they are adept at manage and slow down a game. You can feel you're all right and then abruptly they will just deliver a through ball between defenders without you even seeing. You have to be alert throughout of the game. It takes a resilient mindset and focus just to keep pace."

Swansea Move

The Welsh side sought to acquire Galbraith in January and secured his signature to sign him in the summer in a £1.5m deal. He made a name as a crowd pleaser across a couple of years at Orient and has swiftly achieved similar status in his new home. At the London club he joined forces once more with his former manager, who previously gave Galbraith his initial sustained opportunity in professional games on loan at Doncaster from Old Trafford. Then came a temporary move at lower division Salford, before he departed his boyhood club.

Growth Journey

"I was probably a somewhat inexperienced going into men's football. I think a lot of players would say under-23s football is entirely separate. Sometimes it feels like possession is exchanged without serious challenge. There's not many physical contests. Once you start playing professional matches you have to learn quickly."

National Team Success

He has demonstrated that development for his team and nation, excelling for the Green and White Army, who remain in contention for the global tournament next summer via the knockout phase and for whom he has featured in the recent fixtures, including both legs games against the German national team. His former international manager, Galbraith's former international manager, gave him the highest praise, saying he was Northern Ireland's "creative maestro" given how he controls possession and his ability to spot a killer pass.

Early Days

It has been a remarkable path for the player from the local area in his hometown, just outside Belfast, who used to see his father, the elder Galbraith, also a engine room operator, play for a local club.

Manchester United Experience

Galbraith's sole appearance for United came in Central Asia in 2019, a Europa League trip to the Kazakh capital, where they played on an plastic turf and the arena covering was sealed owing to the weather of bitter cold. "It was a lengthy journey and it was chilly," he comments, smiling. "The days leading up, several youth players and I practiced as a group, so that assisted our preparation. Just to join the main group and get a couple of minutes at the end was amazing."

Leaving United

How hard was it to leave United, the club he transferred from aged 16? "The decision proved relatively straightforward, because I got to the stage where I realized I wasn't going to make it at the senior squad. I'm extremely thankful for the years at the club but it got to the point where I believed I had to take a different path, join a smaller club and play professional soccer. Now I'm gradually climbing the ladder."

Life in Swansea

This occurs during the early part of the afternoon at the club's training ground but Galbraith has an appointment at late afternoon: a learner's exam, another step towards getting on the road. Prior to relocating to the local area, the mid-twenties player was a constant rider in Swansea's so-called fun bus, a minibus driven by club employees, Pete and Howard, which ferries players to and from sessions and fixtures.

"It's myself Gonçalo Franco, the Brazilian, an Ivorian player – a former passenger used to be in it but has begun using his own car. It's enjoyable to socialize with the teammates but I'm hoping to be the following person to stop using the bus and behind the wheel. His teammate is known for his humor; he's always up to all sorts."

Public Engagement

During his time at his former club, Galbraith would blend in with followers on London's Central line after starting his journey at the area he lived in. "I tried|I attempted|My aim
